On 5 August, Latvian
Standard (LVS) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia
signed an agreement on the implementation of the grant project Standardization as a support for hotels and
tourist accommodation service quality improvement and economic development of
the Georgian tourism industry. The project implementation period is from
August 5 to November 15, 2019.
The project purpose
is to provide support for the improvement and development of the quality system
of tourism infrastructure and services in Georgia, providing exchange of
experience and skills in the development and implementation of standards in the
tourism sector in the hotel and other tourism accommodation services segment,
as well as to promote industry involvement in standardization.
The project partners
are Georgian National Agency for Standards and Metrology (GeoSTM), Georgian
Tourism Association (GTA), Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Latvia
Within the framework
of the project is planned, meetings with industry representatives, discussions
and exchange of experience on the standardization of tourism services,
strengthening of cooperation and promotion of the role of standardization in
the field of tourism are foreseen in Latvia and Georgia.
At the same time,
existing co-operation links between LVS and GeoSTM will be deepened to plan and
implement future co-operation projects. Further bilateral co-operation between
representatives and members of the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association and
Georgian Tourism Association (GTA) in the improvement and development of the
quality system of hotel and tourist accommodation in Georgia is envisaged.
The project has received funding from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia development cooperation
budget in 2019.
