Working visit of Georgian and Moldovan colleagues to Latvia
From October 10 to 14, 2022, representatives of the Georgian National Agency for Standards and Metrology (GEOSTM) and the Institute of Standardization of Moldova (ISM) visited Riga within the framework of a grant project “Building the capacity of National Standardization Institutions of Georgia and Moldova to establish support tools for SMEs on conformity assessment in the EU single market” funding by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia development cooperation budget in 2022.
The aim of the project is to support the development of Georgian and Moldovan standardization systems by providing local entrepreneurs with access to information on standardization and conformity assessment in the EU single market. The project also envisages improvements to the existing infrastructure for remote access to information on standards and conformity assessment procedures for entrepreneurs who want to export products and services to European Union countries.
As part of the working visit, the representatives of the GEOSTM and ISM delegations met with the management and specialists of Latvian Standard (LVS), who introduced colleagues to their activities in the fields of standardization and information dissemination. During the meetings, the implementation of the activities provided for in the project, the achievement of the planned goals and results, as well as the possibilities of further cooperation in the future were also discussed.
On October 11th and 14th, delegates from GEOSTM and ISM met with the director of the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) Ms. Baiba Vītoliņa, the deputy director of the Goods and Services Supervision Department Mr. Ivars Jorniņš and project coordinator of Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), at the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Ms. Anita Ābola. In framework of those meetings guests introduced to the structure, fields of activity and functions of the PTAC, market surveillance system in Latvia, and work processes implementing the protection of consumer rights, interests and providing necessary information, and gave an insight into the activities of the LIAA, export support programs for entrepreneurs, information availability on compliance assessment requirements, the EEN network opportunities and advantages for SMEs and the Product Contact Point (PCP).
In the continuation of the project, a delegation of LVS experts will visit Chisinau (Moldova) and Tbilisi (Georgia) to conduct an in-depth study of the existing situation and develop action plans in accordance with the priorities and directions of business development, meet with organizations representing entrepreneurs and hold informative seminars.
